Tooling for new product development
Tooling &
Mould Development
When an existing model cannot meet the product brief, tooling may be required for selected parts or a new product structure. Reanson reviews the project scope, sample needs and bulk plan before tooling begins.

Choose the right route
Not every custom project needs a new mould
The first review determines whether a current model, a component change or new tooling is the appropriate route.
Use a current model
Branding, colors, available components and packaging may be sufficient without new tooling.
Start with OEM customization
Modify selected parts
A specific component or connection may require a design change and dedicated tooling review.
Confirm compatibility first
Develop a new product
A new structure, fit or functional brief may require a complete development and tooling plan.
Start with an ODM brief
Development checkpoints
Plan the mould around an approved product brief
Details and responsibilities are confirmed for each project rather than presented as one fixed package.
- 01
Requirement review
Define the product, intended use, target market, reference files, expected quantities and timing.
- 02
Design and tooling plan
Review the proposed structure, materials, components, tooling scope and information still required.
- 03
Tooling quotation and schedule
Confirm mould items, prices, timing, revisions and the responsibilities agreed for the project.
- 04
Trial and custom samples
Arrange the sample quantity needed for evaluation. Sample type, price and timing are confirmed case by case.
- 05
Specification approval
Review the product specification, appearance, packaging and required checks before bulk production.
Before tooling begins
Items to confirm in the project quotation
This information prevents a tooling discussion from becoming an unclear promise about every product.
Scope
New mould items, product parts and design inputs.
Commercial terms
Tooling price, sample price and payment arrangement.
Timing
Tooling, trial, revisions and sample schedule.
Ownership & storage
Mould ownership, storage, maintenance and future changes.
Samples
Required quantity, material, color and evaluation purpose.
Approval
Specification and sample approval before bulk production.
Custom samples
Quantity and price follow the project
There is no fixed sample quantity requirement. Custom-color samples usually need more than two weeks; the exact schedule depends on the color, material and process.
Bulk production
500 pcs per model, per color
The confirmed 45–60-day bulk lead time is treated separately from tooling and sample timing. The final schedule is confirmed for the specific order.
Tooling inquiry
Send the product brief you already have
Include the category, intended change, reference files or drawings, target market, expected bulk quantity and timing. Reanson can then identify the points that require review.
